Cutting and Stamping

  • Techniques: Higher pressure is needed for stamping and shearing stainless steel compared to general materials. Accurate knife gaps prevent work hardening.
  • Best Methods: Plasma or laser cutting is recommended. If gas or arc cutting is used, grind the heat-affected zone and perform heat treatment if necessary.

Bending

  • Thin Plates: Can be bent to 180 degrees. The radius should be twice the plate thickness to reduce surface cracks.
  • Thick Plates: When bending along the rolling direction, use a radius of 2 times the thickness. For bending perpendicular to the rolling direction, use a radius of 4 times the thickness.
  • Welding: Grind the welding area surface to prevent processing cracks.

Drawing

  • Lubrication: Use pressure-resistant and heat-resistant lubricating oil to manage frictional heat during deep processing. Remove oil from the surface after forming.

Welding

  1. Preparation: Remove rust, oil, moisture, paint, and other contaminants. Choose welding rods suitable for the steel grade. Use a shorter spot welding interval than with carbon steel, and a stainless steel brush to remove welding slag.
  2. Post-Welding: Grind or clean the surface to prevent local corrosion or strength reduction.

Construction Precautions

  1. Protection: To prevent scratches and contamination, perform construction with stainless steel in a film state. Clean the surface after removing the film. Use special stainless steel tools or clean general steel tools to prevent iron filings from sticking.
  2. Corrosive Tools: Avoid contact with highly corrosive magnetic and stone cleaning tools. If contact occurs, wash immediately.
  3. Post-Construction: Use neutral washing to remove foreign matter such as cement and powder ash from the surface.

Additional Considerations

  • Surface Maintenance: Chemical bleaching, corrosion inhibitors, and coatings can discolor the material surface and cause defects, making maintenance difficult. Pay special attention to these issues during operation.
